LONHRO won this race for the second successive year and scored with plenty in hand. Darren Beadman settled Lonhro seventh of the eight runners who were being led up by Platinum Scissors. Beadman sent Lonhro around the field from the 500m point to have him within easy striking distance of the lead at the top of the straight.

When asked, Lonhro quickly accelerated past his rivals to set up a winning break and Beadman eased the horse down in the final stages. Unfortunately for Beadman Lonhro hung in as he made his move and forced Defier on to Archave who was severely hampered as a result. Beadman incurred a 14-day suspension. Mummify, who had trailed the leader for most of the race, ran a good second but was no match for Lonhro under the WFA conditions whilst Defier battled on well for third after not being able to match Lonhro's superior acceleration.
