STEADY rain through the day saw slow going for the running of this 2400m
event. Live By The Sword came across from the outside barrier of the 18 horse
field to lead with a lap to go while Glen Boss had Bedouin back in 14th
position and staying away from the rail. From the 600m point Bedouin steadily tracked
into the race and pulled wide at the top of the straight to mount his
challenge. Back in midfield Daneborogh was making steady progress on the inside
of the field where he was forced to race due to having drawn the inside
barrier. At the top of the rise Chris Munce had Daneborogh in a striking
position and decided to make a beeline for the better going towards the outside
of the track, severely hampering several runners.
Maintaining a straight course down the outside, Bedouin proved a little
too strong at the finish holding off Daneborogh to win by 0.4 length. Bodie,
who had been patiently ridden in last position, finished the race very strongly
for third.
