LOVELY Jubly established herself as the leading juvenile filly after also dual Gr.1 winner Victory Vein. Her exploits, as well as those of Victory Vein's Golden Slipper conqueror Calaway Gal, give Queensland a beaut pair of ace fillies. Lovely Jubly is the 11th to collect the QTC Sires-T.J. Smith double and also the sixth female winner in 27 editions. The exploits of Scomeld, Copperama and Slight Chance at three gives her something to chase next autumn. Grumblings followed the QTC handicapper's refusal to penalise the filly for her Sires' win. However after weights were raised a kilo she still had to equal the female weight record of 55kg by Slight Chance. Scomeld carried 52.5kg, Copperama and Royal Paree 52kg and Juanmo 53kg. Unlike the Sires, when she led throughout, Lovely Jubly was caught a little wide early and was third and fourth as Top Echelon set a leisurely pace from Sir Breakfast. The $2.50 favourite looked in trouble 300m out, but responded grandly to gather the males in and win by a length. In the dead ground, the 1:35.3 was 2.3 seconds outside the race record.

Jaboulet has subsequently produced colts to King of Kings and Desert Sun, the former snaffled by Lovely Jubly's owners David and Jo Throsby for $47,500 the day before she won the 2YO Magic Millions in January. Dan Hayes will be hoping for a filly from the mare's mating with Iglesia. You would expect the Carnation Lodge owned Jaboulet to return to Lion Hunter this spring as Lovely Jubly assisted greatly in making the Oaklands resident Leading First Crop sire by earnings.
