The Juvenile Classifications were set in stone at the Randwick winning post as Victory Vein stemmed the vigorous late challenge of her stablemate Half Hennessy. Had she succumbed at her 11th start and again been a brave loser, as she had in the Golden Slipper, she would still have headed the Australasian Classifications, but her eighth victory ensured she would not be surpassed as Champion Juvenile.

The first half of the Bede Murray stable quinella is the third straight juvenile and the 37th to complete the AJC Sires' and Champagne double. In contrast to her last-to-first effort in the Sires' Dan Beasley took Victory Vein to the lead early and the $2.90 elect appeared set for a clear victory until Corey Brown arrived with Half Hennessy. Choisir completed a set of placings in the Junior triple crown.

The pedigree owned by the colt to be named Mr. Henrysee impressed Ken Jones Jr enough for him to part with $US400,000 at Keeneland in 1989. That amount doesn't buy the best at Kentucky, but a Mr. Prospector from Gr.3 winning Secretariat daughter seemed a worthy speculation by the Guam-based American. In the way of such things away from the headlines, Mr Henrysee never had a chance to run up to his parentage, a throat problem restricting him to one start at three. He joined the roster at Meringo Stud, where he got his first Gr.1 winner in Mr Innocent. Victory Vein might ensure more lasting fame.
