Sunline
had attempted a curtain-call in the previous All-Aged but the rain washed
away the hopes after a desert campaign had jaded her. This time, however,
a large Randwick crowd was treated to the promised procession seven days after
her historic second success in the Doncaster. The Doncaster day crowd had
to wait for photographic confirmation of her triumph. In stark contrast, the
All-Aged celebrations started early, as she rocketed away from Cent Home and
company to win by almost seven lengths. The $32,000 for third behind El Mirada
in the 2001 All-Aged enabled her to limp past the $8m mark. This time she
blew by the $11 million a week after her earnings went into eight figures.
And she set history to rights in taking her 13th Gr.1 success to close out
her season.
At
six, the leading female earner outside Japan raced nine times for six wins
and three seconds. A third straight Horse of the Year title beckons. Perhaps
the best news out of Randwick was that it might not be the end. We'll get
to see her in the spring at least.
