Sudurka's purchase by Waikato Stud was announced within a few days of his second Gr.1 sprint win of the season and he will join the growing ranks of Danzig descendants to ply their trade in Australasia, although they are noticeably thinner on the ground east of the Tasman. Sudurka is the third to compete the same season Group I double of the Oakleigh with the Victoria Racing Club Sprint currently known as the Salinger. Marmion and Dual Choice won both in the 1960s and 70s, at considerably less than Sudurka's 20 and 25/1.

The enigmatic Iga Ninja also won both, two years apart. Sudurka is conditioned by Brian Mayfield-Smith for his owner-breeder Barry Taylor. Danny Nikolic rode the Perugino son at Flemington and it was Nash Rawiller who brought him from 12th at the turn to win going away. It stalled the recent dominance of three-year-olds. Mistegic appeared likely to continue that and win for Strategic, but, as he had in the Lightning, he found one better on the day. Straight Ace nosed out Point Danger for third after Paul Gatt saved ground on the Final Card son. Old Comrade stormed home for fifth and simply ran out of race.
