On the
first anniversary of the longest Guineas, when Show a Heart took 37 days to be
declared the winner after Skalato's disqualification (and appeal), this tough
son of Brave Warrior won his third Gr.1 in a similar fashion to Lonhro two
races earlier. He came around the field with a sweeping run from near last at
the home turn after tracking wide. Show a Heart is the first Guineas winner to
add a Toorak at four, 1922 winner Soorak adding the handicap mile at five. Le
Zagaletta again showed he is at his best on wet ground, his uninterrupted run
out wide carrying him from 13th to second and a neck ahead of Shot of Thunder
who weaved a path into contention nearer the inside. Closer to the fence it was
chaos. Crawl, Defier, Emission, Referral and Market Price all missed a place
but had no luck at all, Crawl was stopped in his tracks. Umrum was attempting
an unprecedented third straight win in the race, but faded to eighth as the
57kg topweight. Fubu, elevated to second in the 2000 Guineas, missed his chance
to go one better in the Toorak when he went amiss a few days prior to this
race. Miss Sandman has a juvenile filly by Canadian Silver, a second-crop
yearling colt by Lion Hunter and is in foal to Encounter.
