Sudurka's best effort at Gr.1 in seven previous tries was a game second on a dead track in the Goodwood. But on his preferred surface - and it was close to concrete - he led throughout, running the the first 400m in 24.16; the second in 21.11; and the third in 23.16, for a gross 1:8.43. It comes within a second of Gold Ace's course and race record of 67.5 and is the performance those around Sudurka knew he was capable of: his conditioner Brian Mayfield-Smith; owner-breeder Barry Taylor and jockey Danny Nikolic - second in 1997 on Rock You.

Taylor also bred and raced Sudurka's dam and her sister, Australian Oaks winner My Brilliant Star. The winner underscored his sire potential a few months after Perugino's other southern Gr.1 winner Testa Rossa retired to Yallambee Stud. Hire racked up his third Gr.1 second after giving away his usual large start on the flat side. Camena led the charge home near the stand-side rail. Through Tremon Thoroughbreds, Taylor sold a Snippets half-brother to Sudurka at the 2001 Magic Millions. The buyer at $330,000 was Sydney agent David Lamond, the colt named Princely Lad.
