SCOTT
SEAMER topped a remarkable Brisbane carnival with a masterful and victorious
ride in the Gr.1 T J Smith Classic on Picaday. Seamer had won the Derby on Half
Hennessy two days earlier and was successful in two other races on the day.
Michael
Rodd who had relinquished the ride on Picady to ride Promoted must have had
misgivings as the latter failed by a half neck to peg back Picady. The
Queensland Sires' Produce winner Ambulance came from a long way back to be a
long neck away in third and had to survive a protest from the rider of fourth
placed Windy Kate.
Bred by
the McAlpine family's Eureka Stud, Picaday was the 20th stakes winner and
fourth Gr.1 winner produced by daughters of Eureka's stalwart Semipalatinsk,
who is also broodmare sire of the smashing Stradbroke winner Private Steer.
A big
future appears to await Promoted whose sire, former champion sprinter General
Nediym is assured of first crop sire honours for the 2002-2003 season.
