THE going was heavy for the first day of the Eagle Farm meeting with the Sires' Produce Stakes-Gr.1 the first feature. Sammy Sequalo led from Picaday deep with the favourite Shamekha running fifth and sixth.

As the field swung around the corner there were many with a chance with Sir Dex and Bushland looking the strongest.

Sir Dex shook off Bushland and appeared to have had the race won until Bushland's stablemate Ambulance came from way back with a run down the outside. Disappointment of the race was Shameka who showed nothing of her known ability and dropped out to finish second last. Ambulance had come from John Hawkes' Melbourne stable with a win in the listed Gibson-Carmichael Stakes over 1650m at his previous start. He was the 11th Gr.1 winner of the 2002-03 season for the Hawkes stable, one ahead of Gai Waterhouse.
