PILLAGE`N PLUNDER came off a last start win on April 12 in New Zealand's Hawke's Bay Cup-Gr.2, which the SAJC had made a ballot free race for the Adelaide Cup as an incentive. The NZ invader was all the rage for the Cup after brilliant work during the week.

Well back early, Pillage `n Plunder worked his way to a challenging position wide out on entering the straight and simply outclassed the field. Outstanding hurdler Nautilism, a son of former champion Naturalism, had perfect running in about sixth, one off the fence and finished stoutly for second. Odyssus was wide all the way and put in an enormous run for third, but nothing was any threat to the winner.

Pillage`n Plunder's dam is a half-sister to a NZ Horse of the Year Veandercross and was bred by his delighted and proud trainer John Kierman. The son of the successful NZ-based Sadler's Wells stallion, Victory Dance, Pillage `n Plunder will be back for a tilt at the Melbourne Cup later in the year.
