ODDS-ON
favourite for the 2500m South Australian Oaks after her outstanding performance
in the 2000m Australasian Oaks, Sound Action was taken to the lead from her
number one barrier, and travelled easily in front to the turn followed by
Milanova and Larrocha.
Into the
straight and Sound Action was challenged by Milanova with Larrocha getting
through on the rails, and Pipkin finishing fast on the outer. Larrocha, who had
had a dream run with the going better on the inside, finished best to win by a
half-length and become the 50th Gr.1 winner for her sire, Danehill.
Pipkin
had no luck. She raced wide three deep all the way and ran a great race
fighting on well for third just behind Jameela who flew home in the final
stages. Sound Action was unable to quicken when the challenges came and plugged
on for fourth.
