SEVEN-YEAR-OLD marvel Bomber Bill, who won all of his seven starts as a two-year-old, has been racing in great form this autumn and capped it with victory in the Goodwood Handicap-Gr.1.

From barrier 20 in the big field, Super Groove crossed quickly and led the field clearly most of the way to the turn, with Bomber Bill travelled easily well back in the field. As the leaders capitulated Deprave and Into the Night looked good chances, but it was Squillani who came through to the lead. Bomber Bill was coming through the field quickly and rocketed to the lead to win going away by a clear margin. He had made up five lengths on Squillani in the straight. Debrief got home well for third.

Bomber Bill suffers from chronic foot trouble and has been lightly raced in some of his seasons. He has had several trainers the last three (John Sadler, Russell Cameron and currently Robert Smerdon) all mentors at Aquanita Lodge. This was his 18th win and third Gr.1 win following the Karrakatta Plate (now a Gr.2), at two and the William Reid Stakes as a five-year-old. He passed the $1m mark in prizemoney at his previous start in Melbourne.
