LONHRO was put to the test in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. In his easy wins earlier this autumn jockey Beadman was able to dictate the tactics of his races, either because of inferior opposition or being the best able to handle the often muddling pace.

However Lonhro stood up and was counted in this race and put paid to his indifferent run in the Doncaster at his previous start. Back to weight-for-age, and against the best opposition available this autumn, he was just as impressive.

Platinum Scissors led early but set a slow pace. Freemason's jockey was having none of it and shot around the field to take up his now familiar role of pacemaker. Lonhro settled fourth, four lengths back. He raced clear over the rise under hands and heels riding. Perennial ìbridesmaidî Pentastic, who was solidly supported, went to the line courageously but was no match for the winner. It was his fifth placing in a Gr.1 and he is overdue for a big race win. Although Republic Lass has a couple of Gr.1 wins, her talent also deserves better. It was her sixth third placing for the season and her third in Gr.I races. Freemason ran his usual honest race hanging on for fourth.
