SUNDAY JOY who many considered should have won the Rosehill Guineas and was probably disadvantaged by the track conditions in the Derby, got her consolation with a very convincing win over the crack fillies Shower of Roses and Bramble Rose.

Crianca set a merry pace, leading the field with Shower of Roses and Bramble Rose tracking. Into the straight and Crianca capitulated, the Waterhouse stablemantes Sunday Joy and Shower of Roses having a short tussle before Sunday Joy asserted her superiority. Ain't Seen Nothin' ran on stoutly for fourth.

Sunday Joy was conceived in Japan by nine times Champion Japanese sire Sunday Silence, and is the first Gr.I. winner bred under a bold experiment by Arrowfield Stud in sending a group of Australian mares to be served to southern hemispehre time. Bred in the purple, Sunday Joy is the third Oaks winner in successive generations of her family, her dam Joie Denise and grandam Denise's Joy both having won Queensland Oaks winners, the latter also beind successful in the Victorian Oaks.
