was installed favourite to bow out of racing with a Gr.I. win to enhance his
stallion value on his way to a stud career at Widden Stud.
Star of
Florida had defeated Snowland in the 1000m Challenge Stakes Gr.2. at their
previous start but their was some doubt whether the super speedster could run
the extra 100 metres out strongly in the Galaxy.
Star of
Florida began brilliantly and led clearly from River Dove and Our Egytian
Reine. Into the straight and Star of Florida shook off River Dove and the NZ
mare. He was still two lengths in front 100m metres out and running on strongly
but Snowland was coming fast and just got up to prevail by a half neck. In an
exciting finish the gallant and spasmodically raced veteren Bradshaw was only
another neck away in third.
