WITH 11 of the 16 runners in this year's Golden Slipper Stakes, the race seemed likely to be taken by a runner from either the Waterhouse (four runners) or Hawkes stables. However it turned out to be a result for Graeme Rogerson and his stable of many syndicated horses, the winner Polar Success giving her group of 10 "battling" owners a huge thrill with their first horse.

Well backed Exceed and Excel led the big field to the turn, with Polar Success settling easily in an ideal position just behind the pace. Hasna and How Funny ran to the front in the straight but Polar Sucess accelerated brilliantly to run to the post a clear winner.

Fillies dominated the race, filling the first six placings and  questions were raised about their weight advantage under the conditions of the race.

Although missing the victory, Waterhouse trained runners filled second, third and fourth placings.
