ANOTHER slashing field of sprinters faced up for the William Reid Stakes. The star studded field included Falvelon, North Boy, Rubitano, Bel Esprit, Bomber Bill, Spinning Hill, Dash for Cash and this autumn's superstar three-year-old Yell.

Royal Code missed the start, with the speedy New Zealand mare Our Egyptian Raine taking up the running. Yell was running fourth well positioned on the rails and got through on the inside of the leader when turning for home. He quickly pounced and gained a good break in the straight to hold on for another sterling win.

A huge first up run by Dash for Cash nearly brought the three-year-old his first defeat in four unbeaten starts this autumn. However, coming to the post both horses racing erratically under pressure, with Yell coming out and Dash for Cash ducking in behind, undoubtedly costing him the race.

Jockeys reported that the shifting track spoiled the chances of Bel Esprit, Rubitano, North Boy and Spinning Hill, although the latters came home with her usual brilliance from a long way back for third.

It was Yell's third Gr.1 success in succession and in winning the Orr - Furturity - William Reid treble emanated the feats of erstwhile champions Vo Rogue (in 1988), Crewman (in 1970) and Manikato who accomplished the feat three times 1979, 1980 and 1981
