IN the Blue Diamond, the first of the season's Gr.I races for two-year-olds, Caulfield trainer Mick Price had three runners including the clear cut favourite Halibery, who had won both the Blue Diamond lead up races.

Halibury jumped well and led until collared by her well supported stablemate Roedean. Halibury fought on well, but could not withstand the challenge of Roedean, who finished brilliantly on the outside from a handy position. Danny Nikolic, who had had the pick of Price's three runners, rode a well judged race.

Kusi came home well along the rails from about midfield to cut Halibury out of second place. The gelding by promising Green Desert sire, Desert Prince, ran very greenly and his was an outstanding run. Price's other runner, Gaelic Princess, finished fifth.

Roedean had suffered a jarred joint after a great run for third behind behind Halibery in the Blue Diamond Preview. Her victory on an interrupted preparation was a great training feat for Price, who had a memorable day, the Blue Diamond success following wins with La Bella Dame in the Gr.2 Angus Armanasco Stakes-Gr.2 and Conspectus in the listed Manfred Stakes.
