THORN PARK, Delago Brom, Titanic Jack and Jeremiad were the only horses of the eight supported. Much vaunted Thorn Park was expected to restore his reputation in the Guineas, and although he got a bump from Titanic Jack as the field turned for home, he made heavy weather of the run home and only plodded into third. Subsequent form suggests he did not adapt to Melbourne's anti-clockwise courses.

Mythological made the pace, but it was the consistent Delago Brom who was pulled right to the outside by Patrick Payne and powered home for his first Gr.1 success from Tycoon Ruler. The latter put up a gutsy performance. Showing early speed, he was steadied mid race and fought on well. Natural Blitz put the writing on the wall with an excellent run into fourth. Delago Brom suffered a tendon injury and has subsequently been retired. The Encosta de Lago colt will take up stud duties in the coming season at Eliza Park Farm.
