SCENIC PEAK earned a start in the Group I International Mile in Hong Kong with a sensational win in the Emirates sponsored Cantala Stakes-G1.

Zvezda set a cracking pace from Umrum with Scenic Peak having the run of the race on the fence in fourth. Into the straight the leaders rolled out and the gelding shot through the opening and quickly ran clear. He was too strong for his rivals to score by a length and a quarter in 1m 33.49s, time which beat the course record held by Vo Rogue and Good Old Mac by more than half a second.

The hard luck story of the race was the consistent Excellerator who was starved for room most of the way after the pressure was applied. When he finally got clear he finished on brilliantly to run a gallant third, just failing to beat Crawl, who came from last.

Trained by Queensland trainer Danny Bougoure, and ridden by Danny Nikolic, Scenic Peak will accompany stablemate Falvelon to Hong Kong for the international meeting, where the latter has triumped twice in the Sprint.
