BULLA BORGHESE gave Ron Quinton his first classic I victory as a trainer when she bolted in the Victoria Oaks-G1.

Chris Munce, who sports the biggest smile in racing, and is noted for his skill riding stayers, had the Quinton trained filly running fourth one off the the rails behing the surprise leader, Hierogram. Rounding the turn the filly was ready to pounce and shot clear when Hierogram compounded. She ran strongly to the post holding off the fast finishing Lashed for a half length win.

The favourite Macedon Lady had an "off day". She was uneasy and fractious before the start and missed the start by a half length. The daughter of Filante was close enough when called upon but showed none of her customary finishing brilliance.

Former champion jockey Ron Quinton paid tribute to trainer Neville Begg after the race. "He has been a big help to me since I took up training and she has had a typical Begg preparation" said Quinton, who rode the Begg trained November Rain to victory in the 1980 Victoria Oaks-G1.
