Juanmo became the first filly to win this multi-named race since Slight Chance, who had also collected the QTC Sires' Produce along the way. Juanmo the 10th to take the double since the T.J. Smith started its current life with a cigarette brand name in 1976, before falling under the name of a beer, the others Romantic Dream, Luskin Star, Zephyr Zip, Royal Paree (filly), Flotilla, Slight Chance (filly), Mahogany, Anthems and Al Mansour. Several others attempting the double were defeated by the handicapper. This race is the old Claret Stakes (first run 1893), generally run two days after the Sires'.
Other fillies to place their name on this trophy are Scomeld and Copperama, which places Juanmo in top company. Of the four winning females in 26 editions only Slight Chance (55kg) carried more than Juanmo's 53kg, which included Kerrin McEvoy. He sat in for Glen Colless who injured a hand in a fall during the O'Shea two days earlier. Juanmo looked well out of it deep inside the straight but flew home to cut down Barawin and Evander. The Octagonal son was better here but given every chance. The winner is another smart young horse for Ken and Elaine Jones, owners of Clan O'Sullivan, Kenny's Best Pal and Catbird.
