Juanmo joined Slight Chance, Aragen and Shame as female Sires' winners within the past decade (actually making it 4-9 - the 1999 edition abandoned). This is the first Gr.1 success for Alan Bailey in more than 30 years of conditioning and the filly was well ridden by Glen Colless, who had won the 2000 Doomben 10,000 on Mr Innocent. Juanmo (15/2) surged over the final 200m to win easily from longshot Counter Agent with Danehill Dancer son Jar Jar Binks a solid third. The 6/4 favourite Evander was held up in traffic before finishing eighth. This winner was bred by a partnership of Vinery head Peter Orton and Tyreel horseman John Vincent, who have presided over many Gr.1 winners for their employers over the years. They bred her from a mare (Let's Shuffle) given to them as a yearling by Robert Sangster, anxious that the wobbler not be euthanised if it could possibly be avoided. The fourth foal of Let's Shuffle was pin-hooked as an Easter weanling for $36,000 by another renowned horseman, Les Irwin. He received $65,000 for Juanmo as a yearling as the final lot on day one of the 2000 Magic Millions, the buyer Ken Jones for his wife Elaine. Let's Shuffle has a weanling colt by Fuji Kiseki and is in foal to Way of Light.
