Old Money continued a highly productive spring for her owner-breeders Bob and Sandra Peters, who stand the filly's sire Old Spice at Clairfontaine Stud. Old Money continued the female domination as the sixth winner in the last decade. This started with Magic Mirror in 1991 and was followed by Beaux Art, Capricious Lass (1997), Kim Angel (1998) and Voile d'Or in 1999, the only male winner in the past five editions Hot Jules. Old Money reprised the WA Oaks-Derby double achieved by the ill-fated Natasha - also raced by the Peters - and Beaux Art. For good measure, she added a middle pin race at 2400m in defeating the older horses in the wfa C.B. Cox Stakes-Gr.2. She was to have progressed to the Perth Cup-Gr.2, but displayed signs of training off and was tipped out by conditioner Lindsey Smith.
Old Money is from Balmy Knight, by the ultra high class Balmerino and a sister to 1988 Perth Cup (then Gr.1) winner Linc the Leopard. Her earlier foals include dual Cox Stakes winner Old Cobber.
Old Money and Jason Brown defeated Tingling and Grand Turismo by more than two lengths after racing in around eighth place and charging to the lead before the 200m from third at the 400m. Her sire finished third to Old Currency and Bounty Hawk for the Peters in the 1983 West Australian Derby.
