Barathea collected his first southern Gr.1 when Easy Rocking whooshed home to deliver a result he had promised for some time, at the expense of the ultra-honest Umrum and Tilt the Scales - subsequent Emirates Stakes winner Black Bean a lip away fourth. It again adds to the value of Twiglet, the Edward Manifold victress also the dam of Fairy King Prawn, the 1999 Hong Kong Sprint winner and a Gr.1 winner in Japan which earned him Horse of the Year status. He was sold by breeder Catherine Remond for $190,000, Easy Rocking was passed in at $70,000 a year later, in 1998, as a first crop member of his sire. It was not inappropriate that Barathea should use Derby day for the milestone as he was second - with Bigstone third - when Hit the Roof's deceased sire, Maroof, scored his biggest win in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Moreover, it came on Breeders' Cup eve, Barathea being a BC Mile hero. His 2000 season at Widden was cancelled by Rathbary, where the Sadler's Wells horse has worked since 1995. He was last in Australia in 1998. Easy Rocking is the first Gr.1 winner prepared by former top jockey Ron Quinton.
